The Regis School The best in everyone

The Regis school Counselling Organisation

Every child has the right to have a say in all matters affecting them, and to have their views taken seriously.

- Article 12, UNCRC.

At our school the counselling organisation provides a confidential counselling service for all students and consultations for our staff.

Referral to the service can be made by any member of staff, the student, a family member or an outside agency. However counselling is only undertaken with the full understanding and cooperation of the student.

The organisation recognises the principle of Gillick competent. This means a student can request counselling without the support or informing of their guardians /parents.  The counsellors will inform all students the limit of the confidentiality offered and will explain the requirement for Child Protection within the counselling relationship.

The work takes place in counselling rooms and the counsellors work is fully supervised as per the BACP ( British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapy) guide lines.

The amount of therapeutic sessions can range from as few as 1 to over 20 depending on the needs of the student. The therapeutic models used are Humanistic; Solution focused Brief therapy and Gestalt. However the counsellors are experienced in other methods and may use these if appropriate.

Further to this the organisation provides proactive support and other work to enhance the students lives while in school. These include Assemblies addressing subjects as Bullying, Respect and Achievement.

Group work can be organised to help students develop confidence, self esteem, exam stress and behaviour change.

As the main counsellor I have the pleasure of providing this service to our students and have done for several years. I am always amazed at the resilience of the students and how hard they work to make sense of their difficult times. To work with someone and watch them develop and achieve is most rewarding and a privilege. With the support of like minded staff I feel at our school we provide a professional and caring service for our students.Kevin Robbins
