What’s the big iDEA?

Making sure students are ready for the digital future is really important.  Some of the jobs they need to be ready for don’t exist yet, but you can be sure technology will be involved.

The Computing Department is helping students take part in a three-year program to Achieve the Duke of York’s Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (iDEA).   Students start in Year 7 completing badges in E-Safety through to Year 9 where they investigate things like Big Data and the Internet of Things. It is expected all students will achieve this award by the time they finish Year 9. Once they have completed the set badges they will receive a certificate from Buckingham Palace.

Students are really getting engaged, here is what one Year 8 had to say

I really enjoyed the badges and they were challenging but still fun and I think that they were the right difficulty for my age group.  I learnt lots of skills about safety and I think these skills will help in later life and will be good to put on my CV and I think it is a good thing for all Year 8 to complete and it is good because it is free and teaches lots of skills, I am very grateful for all the skills I have learnt.”  Toby
