Every autumn something special happens in the grounds of The Regis School. Since 2017 students have been planting flowers to raise awareness of health issues, and to create a well-being garden in the school grounds. This year was no exception, and students planted crocus corms, to reflect the Rotary Clubs purple for polio campaign, where the purple of the crocus flower symbolises the purple ink put on children’s fingers as they as they are vaccinated against this terrible disease. Students were also given the opportunity to plant daffodils, as an extension of our recent ‘Hello Yellow’ mental health campaign.
Student Rights Respecting Ambassadors braved the weather, and an early start, to prepare the ground and drill holes ready for planting. This ensured every staff member and student were able to take part and unbelievably what able to plant their flowers in under 15 minutes per year group of 330. This was testament to the organisation an forward planning of the student leaders.
We can’t wait until the spring, when this year’s flowers start to show, and join the 16,000 already planted since the project began. It really will be spectacular!
