Sixth Formers secure top university places, with one student off to the University of Oxford
Sixth Form students at The Regis School have secured places at some of the UK’s top universities today, with one student heading to the University of Oxford this autumn.
This year, A Levels were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. At The Regis School, students sat in-class exams and completed coursework as part of the assessment process.
Once again, the school’s Sixth Form has seen a high university application success rate, with students set to take up places at some of the most prestigious institutions around the country. Over 50% of applicants received offers from Russell Group universities – The Regis School’s highest percentage yet – reflecting the growing ambition of students.
Among those Sixth Formers celebrating is Jade Coles, who will be taking up a place at St Hilda’s College at the University of Oxford to read Law. Jade said:
“I am absolutely ecstatic! I cannot believe what I have accomplished. The support I have received from the Sixth Form team has been tremendous and I really couldn’t have done this without their help.”
Also celebrating Russell Group successes were:
· Sebastian Power, who will be joining the University of Manchester to study Physics;
· Kelli Ambridge, who has secured a place at the University of Southampton to study Biomedical Sciences;
· Aimee Garlick, who is taking up a place studying Mathematics at the University of Southampton;
· Ceri Janes, who will be heading to the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to study Politics;
· Niall Mears, who will be studying Computer Science at the University of Liverpool;
· Madeline Russell, who will be taking up a place at the University of York to study Chemistry.
Congratulating students on their time in Sixth Form, Connie James, Assistant Principal and Head of Sixth Form at The Regis School, said:
“Our Year 13 students have shown independence and resilience well beyond their years given the disruption of the past 18 months. Despite the obstacles they have faced, whether in school or during home learning, they remained focused on their studies and achieving the very best university offers they could. This is borne out in the excellent destinations they have secured and we are proud of each and every one of them.
“On behalf of our excellent Sixth Form team, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our Year 13s for being such a pleasure to work with and to wish them all the very best in their next steps. We look forward to hearing all about their future achievements, in what I am sure will be very bright and exciting futures ahead.”

Today in particular, we are very pleased for those students taking up their offers of choice, including on some very challenging and competitive courses.
“The range of Russell Group offers our students have achieved across so many different disciplines – including Jade’s fantastic place at the University of Oxford – demonstrates the breadth of the opportunities we aim to offer at our Sixth Form. As we congratulate this year’s Year 13 cohort moving onto the next stage in life, it is also exciting to look ahead to welcoming our new Year 12s in record numbers this September.”
Aimee Garlick, who is now off to the University of Southampton to study Mathematics, said:
“A big thank you to all my teachers and everyone in the Sixth Form team for supporting me throughout.”
Morgan Scott-Ragless said she is “excited to carry on my studies at university and explore more places in the UK”, while Freya Stone is looking forward to “going to university and living in new places. I would like to get a placement in one of the big cities.”
Aspiring physicist Sebastian Power added:
“I am looking forward to the challenges university brings and the future that lies ahead of me.”
