Another Day of Celebrations at The Regis School

Students enjoy GCSE success after bumper year for university entrances – including Oxbridge and Russell Group
Students and staff at The Regis School are celebrating the awarding of GCSE qualifications today, after what proved to be another successful year for university entrances on Tuesday.
This year, GCSEs were awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. As part of this assessment process, students at The Regis School sat moderated examinations and completed a variety of coursework to demonstrate the progress they had made.
This morning’s celebrations were an important occasion for highlighting Year 11s’ work over the past two years – much of which involved home or blended learning – and throughout their five years so far at The Regis School.
It was a chance for students and staff to meet and say goodbye to some of the cohort, whilst a huge number of young people are now looking forward to rejoining the school’s Sixth Form in September. They will be pleased to see that the Year 13s graduating earlier this week did so with the school’s highest ever proportion of Russell Group offers – with one Sixth Former even securing a place at the University of Oxford.
Among those Year 11s celebrating individual successes today were Noah Cartwright, Finlay Clark, Sonny Smith, Oliver Fry and Elliot Scott-Ragless, who were all awarded eight of the top Grade 9s and one Grade 8.
Other highlights were:
- Alexia Posirca, who was awarded seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s;
- Adelicia Lavender, who was awarded six Grade 9s and three Grade 8s;
- Sadie Phillips, who was awarded six Grade 9s, one Grade 8 and and a Grade 7;
- Billy Green, who was awarded five Grade 9s, three Grade 8s and one Grade 7;
- Bethany Young, who was awarded five Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and two Grade 7s.
Dave Oakes, Principal of The Regis School, said of the day:
“Whilst the GCSE awarding process has once again been different than previous years, these Year 11s should be no less proud of their achievements today. Not only have they been a pleasure to teach over their five years with us, but they showed tremendous resilience in adapting so quickly and successfully to the changes we have put in place over the last 18 months due to the pandemic.
“These young people can be confident that they have the qualities, skills and grades they need to progress in their education and that they are one step further to achieving their university and career ambitions. We are looking forward to welcoming so many students back to our Sixth Form, which has enjoyed its own successes this week, and to seeing them continue to develop and excel in their
Student Finley Clark said of his achievements:
“I am still in shock and I’m not really sure how to feel. But I know that my grades are great and it makes me feel hopeful about my future. Thank you to all my teachers who put in so much effort and never cease to amazing me with their dogged determination when it comes to teaching.”
Another Year 11, Elliot Scott-Ragless, said:
“I would like to thank all of my teachers for helping me throughout the year – I am obviously overjoyed with my grades.”
Bethany Young added of her grades:
“I am thrilled and extremely proud with what I have achieved at this school. It was very stressful but all worth it. I am looking forward to starting Sixth Form in September and starting my courses.”
