Paralympic Sports Day

Thursday 8th November saw The Regis School host its 6th Paralympic Sports day. This annual event has taken place in legacy of ‘London 2012’. The Regis School had students as Young Games Makers support the Paralympics and has continued to have a lasting legacy, helping all students appreciate the ability of the Paralympians.
The day was planned and delivered by the Year 9 Sports Leaders. They planned and delivered all 5 different sports, covering all the various roles, from managing the children, doing results and officiating roles. The sports leaders did an exceptional job, taking on staff like responsibilities. They needed to adapt their competitions to the number of students in attendance. They should be very proud of their achievements. The sports leaders de-briefed in the afternoon with a mature approach to celebrating their success and constructively criticising on how to improve next academic year.

This event saw all of Year 7 taking part in the morning with the exception of a handful and majority of Year 8 taking part in the afternoon - with over 400 children accessing an eminence competition. All the competitors represented their houses which led to the full results below. The students had the opportunity to select which of the 5 sports they wanted. The 5 activities included: Boccia, Zone Hockey, Paralympic Swimming, Paralympic Athletics & Sitting Volleyball.
The few students that didn’t participate still learnt about the Paralympics and had some fascinating insight, with one student commenting- “The Paralympians are inspiring and really made me not think of them having a disability and just focus on their ability”. This quote alone summarised the success of the day - with The Regis School fully embracing all diversities.

The overall winning house was: Uluru! Congratulations.
