THE REGIS SCHOOL STUDENT WINS NATIONAL ENGLISH LITERATURE AWARD

The Regis School is celebrating after Year 12 student Alexia Posirca scooped the English Literature Award for Years 10-13 at United Learning’s Best in Everyone Awards 2022 on Friday 24th June.

United Learning’s annual Best in Everyone Awards honour individuals, teams and departments from schools across the Group for the exceptional contributions they have made to school and community life.  This includes recognition for stand-out academic successes, sporting and musical achievements and commitment to leadership and service.

Earlier in the year, schools across the Group had submitted nominations which were then considered by a judging panel.  There was a strong field of nominees in all categories this year and the judging panel had a tough task choosing the winners.

Alexia had been nominated by her teachers for her “flair, commitment and enthusiasm” for English Literature.  Throughout her GCSE studies, in which she achieved a Grade 9, and her A Level studies, Alexia has “demonstrated commitment to working independently” and showed great curiosity in her learning.

In lessons, Alexia was said to inspire her peers and teachers alike with insightful ideas and is always willing to share her thoughts in support of her classmates. Beyond her own work, Alexia took part in the school’s Opening Evening, giving helpful advice to Year 11 students looking to study English Literature at A Level.

Commenting on her achievement, Alexia said:

“I'm very proud to have won this award, especially as I am hoping to take English Literature further and I hope that this will help me to do so, and I am very grateful to both Dr. Gates and Ms Dolling for nominating me and doing everything they can to support me.”

Dave Oakes, Principal at The Regis School, said:

Alexia’s zeal and dedication to English Literature is clearly visible both in the way she conducts herself in her lessons and in her written work which is consistently completed to the very highest standard. It is excellent to see Alexia’s talent and hard work being honoured on the national stage like this. Congratulations Alexia on this exceptional achievement.”

Alexia joined the other award winners at a special ceremony at The Queens Hotel in Leeds where she was presented with an engraved glass award.  2022 marks the tenth year that the awards have been held and a return to an in-person ceremony following two years of virtual celebrations.  Bespoke videos announcing the winners were also posted on United Learning’s Twitter account to coincide with the live event, giving over 10,000 peers, colleagues and family at home the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
