How to prepare your child for their first day:
We have some top tips to support your child in feeling ready to start the term in September.
- Building confidence
Remind your child that everyone is in the same boat when they start at TRS. For children who have left primary school and are about to start secondary school, the summer can be a time of mixed emotions especially under current circumstances. Reassure them that they are not alone in how they are feeling and discuss any concerns or questions they may have. Read the Induction booklet and F.A.Q’s with your child which can be found here…

This is a great source of information about some of the routines and expectations at the Regis School and will support your child in feeling prepared for the first day. - Establish a morning routine.
Before coming back to school, try and get back to your child’s regular sleeping pattern. Have some early nights and get your child up the time you would for school, so it's not too hard getting up on their very first day back. Remember all students must be in the school building before 8.25am.
- Ensure your child has practiced the journey into school
For many children starting secondary school, it could be the first time they are making a journey on their own, and that can be a cause of anxiety. Try to ease their (and your) fears by doing at least one trial journey, going over the alternative means of transport should one method be disrupted. Practise will help build their confidence
- Ensure your child has the correct equipment this will include a sensible school bag.
Please refer to pages 9 the Induction booklet for a full list of the equipment required on the first day of term. We would suggest having the new school bag and uniform ready the night before so your child feels organised for the morning and you doesn’t need to rush
- Ensure your child has the correct uniform
Shop for a school uniform with plenty of time so that you can make sure you have the right size and appropriate clothing for all weather. Please refer to pages 5 and 6 of the Induction booklet for further information.
